How Trump and his key advisors stand to profit from the Dakota Access
Pipeline with Antonia Juhasz, an American oil and energy analyst, author,
journalist and activist. She has authored three books: The Bush Agenda, The
Tyranny of Oil, and Black Tide.*

Juhasz details what Donald Trump’s win means for the controversial Dakota
Access pipeline, which would run through Standing Rock Sioux sacred lands
and under their primary water source. Trump has personally invested between
$500,000 and $1 million in Energy Transfer Partners — the very same company
that’s constructing the pipeline. Trump has an additional $500,000 to $ $1
million holding in Phillips 66, which would have a 25 percent stake in the
completed Dakota Access project.

Energy Transfer Partners Chief Executive Kelcy Warren donated $103,000 toward
Trump’s campaign and a further $66,800 to the Republican National Committee
after he became the party nominee.

Harold Hamm, a top Trump campaign advisor and leading candidate for energy
secretary, is the CEO of Continental Resources, whose oil would be carried
through the Dakota Access Pipeline.

John Paulson, another campaign advisor, is heavily invested in the Bakken oil
and gas industry. And that’s just the start for fossil fuel connections on
Trump’s team.

And, say it ain’t so, could the “Drill baby Drill” sloganeer for the GOP Sarah
Palin be headed to the EPA or Secretary of the Interior or just another one of
her alter egos?

*“Like A Tree That’s Standing By The Water We Will Not Be Moved”: NYC Metro,
Tri-State Support for Standing Rock Protest * In a national, coordinated day
of action in solidarity with the No Dakota Access Pipeline-#NoDAPL movement
called by 350.org (the global climate justice mobilization organization) and
Indigenous and environmental partners at the request of Honor the Earth, the
Indigenous Environmental Network people from across the tri-state area headed
for the district offices of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to demonstrate
support with Standing Rock against the Dakota Access Pipeline.

The Army Corps of Engineers granted the construction permits for the Dakota
Access Pipeline and the Obama Administration still has the power to revoke the
permits and stop the pipeline at any time. The protestors are part of a broader
wave of action targeting decision-makers and stakeholders at every level,
including banks that are funding the pipeline, politicians, and the mainstream
media.

The protestors message:

We demand that Indigenous rights, treaties, sovereignty, and self-determination be honored. We demand that the U.S. Justice Department begin a formal investigation of
human rights abuses at Standing Rock.

We demand the protection of water everywhere.

We demandthat fossil fuels be kept in the ground.

We demand that the Obama Administration and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
immediately and permanently cease construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline
and the AIM pipeline in New York.

We’ll take you straight to the line of protest.

*Unions to Trump: “Pay your hotel workers fair wages and recognize our
union! ”withBethany Khan, Director of Communications, Culinary Workers
Union Local 226*

As far as Nevada’s unions are concerned, hotel mogul-turned-Republican
president elect Donald Trump should put his money where his mouth is,
and pay his hotel’s workers in Las Vegas fair and living wages and
recognize their union too.

The 500-plus workers, who seek to join Hotel Employees and Restaurant
Employees Local 226, are battling Trump management over union recognition,
wages and working conditions.

They say that hotel management is not only breaking labor law – including
by verbal threats and physical assaults, but that they’re sure not following
Trump’s campaign slogan “Make America Great Again!”

So the hotel workers’ Geoconda Arguello-Kline, secretary-treasurer for the
55,000 member union local, Nevada’s largest, said “Trump should start right
here in Las Vegas with workers at his hotel.

Many of them are immigrants who work hard to provide for their families.
They deserve equal treatment and should be respected for their contributions
to this city,” she added, “I came from Mexico many years ago and became an
American citizen to have a better opportunity for me and my family.”

Maria Jaramillo, a housekeeper at the Trump Las Vegas, told the union “This
country is a nation of immigrants, and we all work hard and deserve to be
treated fairly.”

1995

The year the Montana legislature passed 81-2-10, the law giving the Montana Department of Livestock management authority over America’s last wild bison. BFC is working to overturn this blatant conflict of interest and return bison management to wildlife professionals.

MONSANTO GETTING MARRIED: SPEAK NOW OR FOREVER HOLD YOUR PEACE!

MONSANTO GETTING MARRIED: SPEAK NOW OR FOREVER HOLD  YOUR PEACE!

Date: 2016-11-03 05:55
From: Ricken Patel – Avaaz <avaaz@avaaz.org>

Dear pbnb readers,

It’s the worst merger idea in history.

Monsanto poisons our food and fields. Bayer kills bees with pesticides. Now they want to merge into a $100 Billion mega-corporation to dominate our entire global food system!

The firms are right now on a shopping spree for an army of lobbyists to steamroll the plan through US and EU regulators. It’ll take an even bigger people-powered lobby to stop them.

That’s where we come in. Avaaz has beaten both of these corporations before so we know how to do it: show massive public opposition through campaigns and polls, win over the regulators with powerful personal appeals, and have lawyers review every detail.

If 40,000 of us donate the price of a drink or a meal in the next 24 hours, we can launch this effort. Chip in to end this monster marriage before it begins:

https://secure.avaaz.org/en/monster_merger_loc/?bBWntab&v=83576&cl=11006572992&_checksum=afcc4c13185e1f394e290809dcb0d79c9c77dea04510ba649def0308e713fe0b

Global corporations are already too big to regulate, and the agricultural industry is in the hands of just 6 giant companies. Merging two of the biggest, with a history of abusing our health and ecosystems, is a terrible idea.

EU Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager and US antitrust chief Renata Hesse can block the merger if they decide it’s not in the public interest, and both have good reputations. As the public, we have real power to shape their view. But they’ll be under intense political pressure.

Avaaz has scored historic victories against Monsanto and Bayer on many occasions, from blocking the license renewal of Monsanto’s biggest product, glyphosate, to banning one of Bayer’s bee killing neonicotinoid pesticides. Maybe they think that by teaming up they can beat us this time. Chip in to show them they’re wrong:

https://secure.avaaz.org/en/monster_merger_loc/?bBWntab&v=83576&cl=11006572992&_checksum=afcc4c13185e1f394e290809dcb0d79c9c77dea04510ba649def0308e713fe0b

The scariest thing about a Monsanto/Bayer merger is the immense political power such a corporation would have to control our democratic decision-making. What’s wonderful about our movement is our ability to see this threat to our democracies coming, and stop it while we still can.

With hope and determination,

Ricken, Danny, Alice, Emma, and the whole Avaaz team

United for Peace and Justice, a national antiwar coalition since 2003,
supports the tribes gathered to protect the Missouri River from illegal
pipeline construction in North Dakota.

WE CALL ON PRESIDENT OBAMA TO INTERVENE ON BEHALF OF THE STANDING ROCK
SIOUX TRIBE TO CLOSE DOWN THE PIPELINE:

* The location of the pipeline was moved because white people to the
north feared contamination of their water sources;

* The pipeline project has been illegally broken up into many small
projects to avoid the mandated environmental reviews that a pipeline
project of this magnitude requires;

* After more than two centuries of broken treaties, tribal sovereignty
needs to be placed front and center in the struggle for environmental
justice.

The Dakota Access Pipeline would contribute 50 million tons of CO2/year
– equivalent of 10 million cars or 15 coal plants [4].

The pipeline is backed by a “complex network of dozens of shady oil
companies and banks [5].”

The pipeline is slated to run from North Dakota to Illinois, passing
through Iowa farm country where it is also encountering opposition [6].

Destruction of sacred cultural sites and the environment by big oil
interests and greedy banks, and unwarranted use of force against
nonviolent protesters, are also forms of violence and war that must end.

pbnb reader-

There’s a war raging against America’s wolves, and all too
often, the wolves are losing.

The anti-wolf forces are a small but powerful group that is driven by
old fears and hatred – and they won’t rest in their
pursuit to eliminate these amazing creatures.

Fight back against anti-wolf extremists – donate today!

STOP the war on wolves!

Dear pbnb reader,

The anti-wolf people are the minority, but they’re a powerful group.

Driven by old fears and hatred, they never rest in their pursuit to
eliminate wolves from the U.S. Donate now to fight back against
anti-wolf forces.

There’s a war raging against wolves in our country and, too often,
wolves are losing.

*Earlier this year, the state of New Mexico blocked the planned
release of captive-bred Mexican gray wolves into the wild. These
wolves were ready to help rewrite the story of their species
– and now they may never be free to run in the wild;

*In September, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced plans
that would effectively abandon their obligation to protect and
recover red wolves in the wild;

*And Alaska is considering a lawsuit to overturn a new federal
rule that prohibits the state from applying its extreme predator
control program on national wildlife refuge lands – a
program that includes practices like aerial gunning, killing
mother wolves and their young in their dens, using bait to
attract bears and using traps and snares.

pbnb reader, we need your help.

We must not falter in the face of these threats. We’ve come too far.

Your donation today will make a difference for wolves. With you by our
side, I promise

we won’t stop until critically endangered wolves are finally on the
road to full recovery.

Thank you for all you do for wildlife.

Sincerely,

Jamie Rappaport Clark

P.S. Please give now. It really is a matter of life and death for
wolves. And every day counts.

UPDATE: WILDLIFE NEWS YOU SHOULD KNOW

UPDATE: WILDLIFE NEWS YOU SHOULD KNOW

Date: 2016-10-27 03:06
From: “Sara Thomas, WWF Action Network”

pbnb reader,

According to the Living Planet Report released today, vertebrate populations declined
by 58% between 1970 and 2012 The report dives deep into a variety of research to document the health of the planet and what it means for humans and wildlife.

Below you’ll find more information on the report, as well as some of the latest updates and happenings related to wildlife over the last couple of weeks:

CITES

The 17th Conference of the Parties to CITES took place in Johannesburg from Sept. 24
– Oct. 5, 2016. Governments united behind a number of decisions to provide greater protection to a host of threatened species and bolster efforts to tackle soaring levels of poaching and wildlife trafficking. All legal trade of pangolins, the world’s most trafficked mammal, will soon end thanks to a CITES agreement to further protect the critically endangered species from extinction. END Wildlife Trafficking Act

On October 7th, President Obama signed into law the END Wildlife Trafficking Act, following a unanimous passing in both houses of Congress. The legislation includes critical pieces of the Wildlife Trafficking Enforcement Act, which WWF supporters
like you helped us advocate for in the Senate. Read more: http://wwf.worldwildlife.org/site/R?i=lVWxww_57fsd2T8JxSwTPw

Why Vietnam Must Act Now to Save Rhinos

Nearly 1,400 rhinos were slaughtered for their horns across Africa last year–with most rhino horn smuggled into Vietnam. Yet, the government in Vietnam has done almost nothing. Vietnam is hosting the International Conference on Illegal Wildlife Trade in November, and WWF officials will deliver a letter from our supporters calling for an
end to the rhino horn trade. So far, more than 100,000 people have spoken up for rhinos. Watch now: why the Vietnamese government must act now to save rhinos. http://wwf.worldwildlife.org/site/R?i=tJwVDspu8BULfl_udmfZ_A

Living Planet Report 2016

Of the declining terrestrial mammal populations in the Living Planet Index, 60 percent are threatened by overexploitation–including African elephant populations. The levels of illegally killed elephants have increased since 2005–peaking in 2011. Although there has been a slight decline since 2011, over half of the elephants found dead are still deemed to have been illegally killed. Poaching for ivory appears to be the primary cause of the decline in elephant numbers. read the full report: http://wwf.worldwildlife.org/site/R?i=do7O_Ty4hRkPX4JHJ6Il3Q

Current Actions

Act Now to Save Rhinos
Vietnam must act urgently to shut down the rampant rhino horn trade. Thanks for already taking action. Urge your friends and family to speak up and help us show the Vietnamese government the world cares about rhinos. Save Selous
By 2022 we could see the last of Selous’ elephants in Africa gunned down by heavily armed and well-trained criminal networks. Tell the Tanzanian government to strengthen its wildlife management and protect the Selous reserve. Take action now: http://wwf.worldwildlife.org/site/R?i=hrzEMHnD63Nly1XTR1w4OA
