Vancouver Aquarium: Cut Ties with SeaWorld’s Baby Beluga “Puppy Mill”>>   [PLEASE DELETE MY INFORMATION IN PETITION FORM AND ENTER YOUR OWN INFORMATION.]

pbnb reader,

A baby beluga dead after just three weeks. A mama beluga forced to deliver three babies in just four years. Female beluga whales taken out of the water, sedated, and dosed with hormones.

This is what SeaWorld’s beluga breeding program looks like, and it is the Vancouver Aquarium that perpetuates these horrific practices by supplying the program with male whales. Click the link below to sign Emily’s Care2 petition demanding that the Vancouver Aquarium cut ties with SeaWorld.

Thanks, John Vance – Info Sharer

SeaWorld’s methods for breeding belugas are horrifyingly close to those used by puppy mills. Female belugas in the wild typically have pregnancies that are about 12 to 14 months long, and they only give birth on average once every three years. SeaWorld, on the other hand, has been known to breed or artificially inseminate their favorite female belugas less than a year after they give birth.

These cruel underwater puppy mill practices hurt both the mothers and the babies. The beluga infant mortality rate at SeaWorld is 50%. In the last nine years, five of the baby belugas that died at SeaWorld came from just two mothers, and all of them were fathered by Vancouver Aquarium male belugas.

While SeaWorld may be the mastermind behind this baby beluga “puppy mill,” the Vancouver Aquarium has made it all possible by providing the male belugas for the breeding program. In fact, the Aquarium’s male belugas – Nanug and Imaq – have been shipped around North America and forced to become SeaWorld’s sole breeders for the last 15 years!

This partnership between the for-profit SeaWorld and the non-profit Vancouver Aquarium is so disturbing that Dr. Jane Goodall weighed in with a letter to the Vancouver Parks Board calling the practice “no longer defensible by science.”

The good news is that SeaWorld’s baby beluga “puppy mill” could be slowed down, and possibly even stopped completely, if the Vancouver Aquarium refuses to lend out their male belugas for the breeding program.

Please click the petition link below to put a stop to this indefensible partnership between SeaWorld and the Vancouver Aquarium!

If enough people speak out against this inhumane breeding of belugas, the Vancouver Aquarium might realize its donors are paying attention and be forced to cut ties with SeaWorld.

Thanks for saving baby belugas and protecting their mamas!
