Dear pbnb reader,
Ali Mohammed Al-Nimr was 17 years old when he went to an anti-government protest in Saudi Arabia. Now, he has been sentenced to beheading and crucifixion, which involves removing the head of the prisoner and tying their headless body to a cross.
This sentence is absolutely outrageous and belongs nowhere in our modern world. Please sign this petition to speak out against such senseless killing and demand a pardon.
Al-Nimr was accused by the government of carrying a firearm, attacking security forces and even armed robbery. None of those charges could be proven. He confessed after a long time behind bars, but some organizations claim he only did so because he was tortured.
Saudi Arabia is one of the most prolific executioners in the world, putting more than 2,200 people to death between 1985 and 2015. Saudi Arabia also executes people for crimes committed when they were below 18 years of age, in violation of the country’s obligations under customary international law and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
The only thing that can stop this senseless tragedy is a lot of international pressure. Please speak out and demand that Ali Mohammed Al-Nimr be released!
