Greetings from Project Censored and the Media Freedom Foundation!
We are half way through the Project Censored Spring fund drive, yet barely one third of the way to our $15,000 goal. We have raised $4,540 so far from 36 people. We need twice as many of you to step forward by May 5th to support our work in completing the Censored 2016 yearbook on time. We have met our $2000 match from a donor in Washington State, and need another donor to offer another $1000+ plus match over this weekend. Please help if you can by giving any amount that fits your budget.
We’ve grown in terms of outreach at Project Censored, especially over the past five years. In addition to our annual book published by Seven Stories Press, there is now the incredible Project Censored documentary being used in classrooms across the country. We are four and half years into our weekly public affairs program at KPFA Pacifica Free Speech Radio in Berkeley, CA, which now airs on 25 stations across the US.
We need your support to keep this important work going! Please give what you can. All donations are tax-deductible! Those donating $50 or more will receive a signed 2016 yearbook in October when the book is released. Those donating $250 or more will be listed in the acknowledgement pages of Censored 2016 yearbook as a contributing supporter.
We are pleased to announce that we have a generous $2000 challenge match to support this drive from a donor in Washington state. So every dollar we raise means an additional dollar from the match.
Checks can be mailed to Project Censored P.O. Box 571 Cotati, CA 94931 (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=8CGAXPUSQK832&mc_cid=53fc961338&mc_eid=[UNIQID])
We are doing all we can to support independent journalism, promote media literacy, and teach critical thinking skills. We now work with professors and students on over 20 campuses across the US.
College of Marin professor Susan Rahman’s students Lauren Kemmeter and Nathan Bowman remark upon what working with Project Censored has meant for them:
“Participating in Project Censored has reminded what a powerful and important tool the voice can be. By engaging youth in current events not shown to us by the corporate media we are breaking the cycle of passive reception and shifting toward a climate of active participation. Through this we can cultivate a more educated and aware population and foster an environment where social change is attainable in our diverse world.” Lauren Kemmeter
Working with Project Censored has been a fulfilling experience. All of us have spent a lot of time working on this project, but it was completely worth it in the end! Working with this organization has changed the way I view media!” Nathan Bowman
In order for us to continue working with students to finalize the 2016 book for publication, we really need your help this spring. Everyone on the our e-mail list knows that we don’t do a great deal of mass appeal fund raising. Project Censored receives very little funding from foundations or universities. We rely almost totally on support from personal donors, monthly subscribers, and book sales. So as we enter our 39th year, Project Censored asks you to help us meet our goal as we go into our busiest time of year finishing Censored 2016. You can see the over 200 stories being considered for inclusion for our forthcoming book here: http://www.projectcensored.org/category/validated-independent-news/?mc_cid=53fc961338&mc_eid=[UNIQID]
We thank you all for taking the time to read our appeal, and we are grateful for any support you offer as we educate the next generation of muckraking journalists!
